Thread Items And How They Work

All thread magic items will have an ability that is usable without a thread or Rank 0 (Example a +1 short sword with a red tinge to the steel a brass guard and pommel and the hilt is wrapped in white leather).

To improve a thread it will cost exp. but the item will gain powers (Example Rank 1 +1 Flaming short sword Cost 100 Exp Key Knowledge: Name: Fire Strike).

The new powers will only work for the PC who paid the Exp for the thread (Example Rank 2 +2 Flaming Burst Short Sword Cost 200 Exp Key Knowledge: The last owner was a Human Warrior named Horus he died fighting Yeti)

Each raise in rank has a key knowledge that must be found out or a deed that must be done to be able to spend the Exp to raise the rank of the thread(Example Rank 3 +2 Flaming Burst Short Sword Wielder gains Imp Ini Feat if she already has the feat this will stack Cost 300 Exp Key Knowledge The Sword was owned and used before the scourge by the windling hero "jrazzes"

Deed: Find a windling Fighter and give him the Sword You may both attach a thread to it and use its powers but both characters must pay the Exp price for each thread. If the Windling Hero accepts the sword you gain 600 Bonus Exp on top of any gained during the adventure you gave away the sword. If the windling ever gives you back the sword you keep the Exp) This allows the GM to introduce powerful magic items into the group early on and make the characters quest for the knowledge to unlock their full potential. Don’t make all items thread items and if you have a lot of them make the majority of them 1-5 threads to keep the powers from getting out of hand. Thread Items should always be unique. I also suggest you only allow characters to increase a thread level if they increase in level with the item in their possession.
